YouTube: SEO and GDN Overview – Part 1
It’s official, YouTube is becoming a prominent revenue source for Google’s earning. Many would have known the fact that YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world, right behind the Giant themselves, GOOGLE. So, should companies now take YouTube seriously? Recent information released by Google is evident to prove YouTube’s position as 2nd largest search engine. An interesting fact is, more and more people are using the phrase “How To” to search for tutorials, which explains the hummingbird algorithm after all. YouTube’s popularity is growing like wild fire, with its inclusion in Google’s SERP.
Video marketing is now the thing to do. With ever increasing platforms to showcase videos, companies are realizing the fact that videos can engage audience better. So, what does it take to rank on YouTube, or, to buy ads on Google?
Its important to understand how YouTube ranks videos organically (we will talk about the ads later). This brief guide is here to also educate how to create a long lasting branding impact via videos, instead of ranking merely for the sake of ranking. Before creating a YouTube video, you must come u with a proper strategy. Your video contents, title and other complementing marketing starts should revolve around your ultimate objective.
Come up with a relevant (& creative) channel name, branding and vanity URL. YouTube channels should be consistently branded in different means, icon, banner, URL etc. Spend some resources in building the icon so it does not go pixelated. The screen resolutions are crazy in today’s age.
To claim a vanity URL, you must have the following:
- 500 or more subscribers
- Channel is at least 30 days old
- Channel has uploaded a photo for the channel icon
- Channel has uploaded channel art
Then, your URL should look like this:
instead of, https://www.youtube.com/user/O8817XvU908bBu889
Always know you audience, demographically. Don’t go over ambitious and target the whole wide world. YouTube sensations spent years in building their subscribers so lets start small. Target you mother country (in our case Malaysia) and their respective languages. After nailing that down, always remember your channel keyword elements, which ultimately becomes your keywords to be ranked.
Channel descriptions are very important. With a bit of SEO twist it brings you exponential benefits. Always link the channel back to your website. It benefits your assets both ways.
In Part 2, we will be focusing on how to create a better video, and also GDN, Tru-View Ads on YouTube. Stay Tuned.
